Is it possible for my Fax-to-email documents to be delivered via PDF file attachment instead of a TIFF file attachment?
No. Currently, the fax-to-email solutions offered by Telephone Warehouse can only deliver faxes in TIFF format. We believe this is a better format for the following reasons:
+ TIFF is a format that is nearly universal in its compatibility. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tif) Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, which is included with Windows XP, is compatible with TIFF files.
- PDF is a format that is not inherently compatible with most operating systems, and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader software to be installed so that PDF files can be read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pdf
+ TIFF files are typically smaller than PDF files.
+ Most TIFF viewing programs load more quickly than the latest versions of Adobe Acrobat.
Sometimes we are told that users' PC's are unable to open or view TIFF files. This is usually the result of a file-association problem on the user's PC. By default, TIFF files are associated with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Often, when a user installs new software on their computer and this software is related to photos or graphics, such as camera or scanner software, the file association gets changed and this affects the ability to open TIFF files. This is a relatively easy problem to solve. There are instructions in a different FAQ on this website that explains how to correct this problem.
